As technologies have improved, so has the capacity to store information. The days of paper journals, photographs, note taking, etc. have been streamlined to match the technology that is available for use. In most homes there are scanners, computers, digital cameras, printers, fax machines and other technologies that allow for information to be uploaded and transferred easily from one person to the next, or even for personal use. People are hard pressed to be found without some sort of device that can help with their appointments or stores their address book.

With the streamlining of personal information, there is a growing need for people to understand how to store and organize it. If it is haphazardly placed on a computer, one may “lose” his or her files that are important. Programs and equipment have made it easier for people to keep track of their stuff so that it can be readily accessible when it is needed for editing, for reading, or for fun.

Most programs tend to be very user oriented and friendly so that even a novice can easily handle and tend to what he or she needs to do on the computer with his or her information. The easier a program or a piece of equipment is to use, the more popularity it will gain for everyday use by the masses. Even in the tech savvy world around a person everyday, there are still some people that refuse to get on a computer. These people tend to be scared or overwhelmed with the technologies. It is a complicated world with its own jargon and acronyms. Interface between the technology and the person needs to be simple so that a person can gain confidence in the product and his or her own ability to live and maneuver in this new technical world.

People are making the switch to assure that their personal information is not lost, but rather is backed up in a secure and more convenient fashion. This same information also becomes more portable and accessible than the paper files and drawers full of stuff at home. People seek help from many sources to assure that they can survive in the world where owning a computer is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Once a person gains confidence with technology, the switch goes from hesitancy and fear to appreciation and excitement. Digitizing the information is a task that allows for a person to feel more freedom and security with those things that are important to him or her.
