Online Brand Protection

The internet can be great for your business but there are some pitfalls that need to be avoided. Some companies are finding that searches for their businesses frequently bring up negative comments or reviews. It is, however, possible to protect your brand name.

One of my friends owns a hotel in Cyprus. Though the hotel is only small, his family have spent some years building up the business and creating an excellent location for visitors to spend time.

When he carried out a search on Google for the name of his hotel he was shocked to find that the second and third results displayed in the search engine listings both showed negative reviews, written by individuals who claimed to stay at his hotel.

He felt that the reviews were unfair and provided misrepresentations of the quality of service that he provides. He tried, in vain, to complain to Google in order to get the listings removed.

Having failed to get a satisfactory response, he turned to Search South to see whether we could assist with protecting his online brand.

By using an extensive list of techniques we were soon able to push the two offending reviews down from their previous positions within the Google search engine results. Indeed, they now no longer even appear within the top two pages!

My friend’s hotel appears top of the listings for a search on its brand, followed by a number of positive reviews and web pages. In effect, his brand has been protected.

The following methodology has also been employed on Yahoo and MSN listings, ensuring good coverage. As a result, bookings are up and business is booming.

With a little bit of work, it is possible to protect your brand online.

You can find out more about protecting your brand by visiting Search South, where Keith Barrett is employed as a search engine consultant. This article may be used by any website publisher, though this resource box must always be included in full.
