Hey…I thought this webmastering would be easy stuff.

Author: David S Adams

My past profession and current part-time profession, futures trading, requires exacting analysis and accurate decisions. There is no room for wishy-washiness, or dawdling, no, trading requires one to make snap decisions based upon several screens of data. There are days web mastering when sitting in a dark room completely surrounded by screens seems fairly appealing. This web mastering is hard work, and it's demanding, too.

It takes a tight and disciplined level of organization to get all the tasks completed that are required to do this web mastering gig properly. When I started, no one told me about SEO, keywords, HTML, XML, PHP, wordpress, domains, apache…I think you get my point here. I grown accustomed to the pace, and one nice feature of Internet Marketing lies in the flexibility of the hours I can work. Of course, staying up all night working on a website is not my idea of a great work schedule. But it does allow me to spend more time with my family and engage in some of the leisure activities that I enjoy. Though my golf game has continued to torment me this year…some things never change.

I've found that my ADHD addled brain requires a physical list each morning of things I plan to accomplish. The list is usually decorated with tasks far different from the day before. One day I am installing wordpress plug-ins, the next day I may be coding HTML onto a splash page, or optimizing a site for a search engine, or doing keyword research. Or perhaps the list includes writing an article.

The point is, it's important to stay focused with you Internet venture, and “keep the weeds out”, so to speak. I actually have a digital day planner that I use to keep track of the tasks I have assigned myself each day. If I don't write things down, I find myself surfing mindlessly over the Internet and getting absolutely nothing done. When you write things down, though, you quantify the task and make it real. It becomes an obligation, and I always complete my obligations.

Winners keep score…I think Zig Zigler or Tom Hopkins said this. Either way, you have to keep an ongoing tally of your progress in building your online empire.

And how about determination? The big bucks the gurus tout did not exactly start overwhelming my email account. It started slow, and some days it seems a waste of time to continue. Of course, there are just negative thoughts that creep into your mind, and a disciplined mind acknowledges the thoughts, but files them away forever. Negativity has no place in the entrepreneurs chain of thought.

No, it hasn't been the “piece of cake” I expected, but then again, the rewards are oh-so sweet.

About the Author:

Why would anyone walk away from Wall Street and start an Internet Marketing career? Well, I did. But not without months of struggles and disappointments. And did I mention aggravation? I wasn't very good at the beginning. But success came to me in time, and then more success, and it came in unexpected ways and with unexpected products. Needless to say, I ended up marketing products I evolved in to… I always thought I would teach the world to trade futures, after all, that is my area of expertise… but my business now has nothing to do with trading the markets, though it is still a goal of mine…no, I think to be successful on the internet, you have to learn to be successful on the internet…if that makes any sense? So I found myself attracted to programs that are both legitimate and informative, and I shied away from programs that promised millions… You can also read my trading blog at The Fractal Trader and get some insight into trading. I also write extensively at Making Residual Income
